Julie has 25 years’ experience in the mining industry in Australia, China and Tanzania, including 19 years in gold/copper working for Newcrest Mining, Sino Mining and Barrick Gold, and six years iron ore experience with Fortescue Metals Group. She holds a double major in Extractive Metallurgy & Chemistry from Murdoch University. She commenced with Fortescue as General Manager at Cloudbreak Mine in 2013, and transferred to General Manager at Fortescue’s Solomon Mine in 2015. Julie has received numerous accolades including 2011 Australian Mine Manager of the Year, 2012 West Australian Business Woman of the Year, she is listed in the 2013 WIM(UK) 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining, and one of the 2014 Australian Women of Influence. Julie is a Fellow and Chartered Professional of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM), is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD), on the International Committee of the Society of Mining Metallurgy & Exploration (SME), and a Member of the Mining & Metallurgical Society of America (MMSA). Julie also serves on the AusIMM Council for Diversity & Inclusion. She has attended Harvard Business School and INSEAD Business School, holds several Diplomas in Financial Markets and Management, and sponsors the Julie Shuttleworth Prize in Mineral Processing at Murdoch University.
